A few new shows

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ve had to cancel the gigs that were listed here. But the discussion about chords continues in the comments below…

Is there an on-sale date for the Platform show? The Platform website isn’t showing anything yet. Cheers.

  2. JY Says:

    Hi Paul,
I think it should go on sale in the next week.
    Cheers,
    JY

  3. Paul Says:

I just spoke to platform, and they tell me tickets go live on their system at 5pm this evening if anybody else is interested. You can’t order online so have to phone their box office.

  4. JY Says:

    Tickets are £5!

  5. Ed Says:

Hi James. Bought your first CD on a whim in a small independent store in Canterbury pretty much because I had some spare cash and liked the cover. Popped it in the CD played and was blown away and have since bought everything else you’ve put out.

Something tells me you’d be a big fan of the Madagascan guitarist Modeste Hugues Randriamahitasoa; bit hard to come by but amazing stuff.

And now I’ve got the sycophantic bit out of the way, please could I have the chords to ‘Steady as she goes’? :)

Keep up the good work and if I wasn’t living in South Korea I’d be regular at your gigs…

  6. Emily Says:

Hey all, was at the platform gig last night, was absolutely fantastic so well done and thank you! Also I have to blame you for my want of curry all day..

Thanks again guys will be there next time you play Glasgow or Edinburgh, have you got any other dates for either city?

    Emily

  7. JY Says:

Hello Ed & Emily - thanks for the kind words. I have Modeste’s CD, I’m a bit of a fan of Malagasy music, especially D’Gary, Rakatozafy, Jean Emilien, etc. I have no idea what the chords are for Steady As She Goes though as it’s in an odd tuning (dropped D) and I pretty much pick my way through it, without holding actual chords down. Sorry about that. There’s a Youtube vid of me playing it solo somewhere in Germany which may help.
Emily, no plans for Glasgow or Edinburgh as of yet, although I am in Ayr this weekend coming?
    A’ the best,
    James

  8. Ed Says:

Cheers James, I’ll try and figure it out~

  9. Mike Says:

Hi James, are you going to play Green Man this summer? It looks like it’s gonna be great, would be excellent to see you play there.

  10. JY Says:

Hey Mike - I have no idea, I’m afraid. I’d love to of course, but we’re still sorting out a schedule for the next few releases. A good chance I won’t have anything out by then….
    Best.
    James

  11. Justin Says:

James - just to say that your songwriting is great. You write the songs that I wish I could write! Great work, will try and check out your show in London.

Is there any sheet music for ‘brussels rambler’ anywhere?

    Justin

  12. seb Says:

I’ve just been told that the these dates have been cancelled.
Can you please shed some light on this? I’ve been looking forward to this a lot :(

  13. jy Says:

    Hello,
Yes I’m afraid these shows have all been cancelled for personal reasons. My sincere apologies, I was really looking forward to these shows and you can rest assured I haven’t cancelled on a whim. As soon as i can get to a p.c. and update the page I will.
Sheet music for ‘Brussels’? I’m afraid I have no idea, but good choice of song, my favourite on that album!
    Best,
    JY

  14. seb Says:

That’s unfortunate but I’m sure you have your reasons.
Anyway, hope to see you on the continent soon!

  15. justin Says:

thanks, that is a shame about the shows but am sure there was a good reason. its a very good album, but would agree that that for me is also the standout track - difficult choice though!

I managed to work out ‘I awoke’ from one of your previous posts, which probably lends itself more to sheet music translation. anyway, thanks and hope to catch brussels at a live show sometime!,

    Ed,

Someone just posted another video of James playing Steady She Goes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uacLJ7nFYsM although the audio and video are out of sync. Also the beautiful At First She Starts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiovM654QNY

  17. Reuben Says:

    Hi Justin,

Chords for the recording of Brussels Rambler are slightly different from how we play it live… As far as I can tell, they are -

    Bm - D(1st inversion) - D - Asus4 - G - D(1st inversion) - Em - D

    - several times over. There’s a wee repeat of the second half of that in the musical break in the middle of the song.

Those D(1st) chords could be F# minor too - either fit well and it’s all slightly ambiguous…

    Cheeers

    Hi James

Now what a bummer you were going to play in Utrecht my home town and i was really looking forward to it, just saw that the shows have been cancelled of course due to good reasons i presume, but nevertheless i am sad.
Any chance of seeing you in Utrecht in the near future?

    Regards
    Martie

  19. jy Says:

    Hi Martie,
I really hope all these gigs can be rescheduled, so that would include Utrecht of course, but it may not be this year. We’ll see how things go. I was looking forward to Utrecht as a childhood friend was coming along! Humbug.
    Best,
    James

  20. martie Says:

    Hi

    Well i hope so t6o.
Anyway i also hope that the personal circumstances why you had to cancel aren’t too serious or heavy.
    Take care!
    Martie

  21. justin Says:

    Reuben,

Thanks very much for this, I will have a look and see how that fits. Much appreciated.

    Justin

  22. Mark Says:
