A Christmas show in London - with special guests Alasdair Roberts and…

Hello,

On December 17th, I’ll be playing a Christmas show at the Luminaire, Kilburn. This will be solo, as opposed to the show on December 11th at St Giles, which is with full band. The December 17th show will have some special guests - including Alasdair Roberts, plus a couple of bozos who live near my house. The December 11th show has Malcolm Middleton - who I think you’ll agree is a pretty special guest himself. So. Two London shows. What credit crunch? Hmm… Links -

If you come to them both, your reward will be in heaven.

Maybe.
Cheers,

JY

Hey James, what are you doing gigging for those Southern softies…keep it real keep it north !
Saw your gig in Manchester last night at the Night& Day cafe. Nice venue wasn’t it. Great set as expected. After the gig we wandered into the wet Manchester night at midnight to find a parking ticket on the car. Then our journey back to the wilds of north Wales was halted by a crash on the motorway which involved driving in circles around the back streets of of Manch looking for a way out. Finally got home at three. Despite everything it was worth it ….honest !
Do you have anymore of those acoustic and live Fence CD’s you were selling for a fiver last night. Like to get more as presents.Just listening to ‘acoustic’ now….well braw!

    JY,

Speaking of Christmas, a song called “Sing Noel” popped up on your myspace page around this time last year. I was reminded of this beautiful song when I first heard your new album. Any chance we’ll be able to hear it again?

Hello JohnA - There’s talk of reprinting those CDs. They sold out very quickly. Doesn’t sound like you had the best night out!

Hello RC - I listened back to that song with Tom Bauchop from UNPOC - he reckons it’s my best ever song, but I’m not sure I believe him. I’ll see if I can find a decent version to upload… However, I fear you have a selective memory…

  4. RC Says:

Thank you! I look forward to hearing the song again. Mr. Bauchop must have good taste, but your best ever song? I don’t know how it gets any better than the title track from your new album. Or Capture Of The Horse. Both lyrically and musically brilliant.

A bit late notice to post up but … I have just received this Email today from See Tickets about the gig tomorrow night -

“Just a few points to note for the James Yorkston show on the 11th December.

St Giles is a beautiful 300 year old Palladian Church and this means that although the sound and atmosphere will be amazing, there are some limitations.

There is no bar in the church itself, though The Angel, a very nice Sam Smiths pub is right next door, and Soho institution The Intrepid Fox is opposite. The interval will be long enough that you can get a quick drink and get back to the show.

There is only one toilet in the church. We strongly advise that you use the toilets in the pubs mentioned above if you want to avoid long queues.

Hope you enjoy this special and intimate show.
Best Wishes, Eat Your Own Ears.

Times: Doors 7pm, Malcolm Middleton 7.30-8.15pm, Interval 8.15-8.35pm,
    James Yorkston 8.35-10.15pm, Curfew 10.30pm

So get there early! Have good one ;0)

JY, what a truly magical gig last night at St Giles. The sound was wonderful, and we managed to bag a seat upstairs right at the back near the organ so had a lovely view of you all, including Pictish and Rozi crazy dancing at the rear. Great to be able to hear Sarah’s clarinet so well - often I find it gets lost…. I was the lass in the brown beret with tears in my eyes the whole way through :)

Shamefully can’t make the Luminaire, although we were there last Christmas and I can vouch for the venue and the show!

  7. NH Says:

Brilliant gig at St Giles last night; I have never previously seen the “full band” and for me it was extraordinary performance, I to had a tear my eye …

  8. NH Says:

Has anyone got the full set list for the St Giles gig? Thanks

  9. Joseph Says:

St. Giles’ was a truly amazing gig. I took a neighbour who arrived knowing nothing of you and left speaking of nothing else. We’re coming back this wednesday. Needless to say this owes nothing to my powers of persuasion with the opposite sex and much to yours. Cheers James. Please play ‘someplace simple’.

    JY,

I hate to sound greedy (thanks again for re-posting Sing Noel), but the comments above have me wishing I could find some audio or video from your recent shows. Any plans to release another live album or post some clips online? It’s a long, rainy winter here in Oregon so any little bit would be appreciated.

  11. JY Says:

    Hello everyone,

Glad you all seemed to have enjoyed it. I was a bit concerned when I arrived that the hall would fit 600 people, but it seemed ok? And the sound, by all accounts was good, also. As a gig, we all had a great time, it’s most fun playing with that band, they all have their own peculiar personalities! A shame Reuben didn’t get a solo, which he loves, but it’s just the way the songs came out. We don’t operate to a set list, so it’s a bit random.

Joseph - Happy to do Someplace Simple, if I remember, on Wednesday. I’ll try and vary the two shows as much as possible.

RC - We were recording the most recent tour, maybe with the thought of doing another semi-official live CD, but the sound quality was never that high, so I doubt it’ll be compiled. There will be, however, a CD compilation of various acoustic radio sessions available soon - again, semi-official, not through Domino or Amazon, just gigs and the Fence site - which we sold on the most recent tour.

Phew. Looking forward to Wednesday, oh yes.

    James

Another stunning gig James. Thanks for playing ‘Someplace Simple’, the girl I took loved it, but alas it wasnt enough to win her favour. Got a damn sight closer with your help though im sure. The haars rolling in somewhat but with the help of a few of your records im sure itll pass. Thanks again for a spectacular couple of gigs.
